Isn’t Fall the best…

A ocllection of fall pumpkins and leaves

A collection of fall pumpkins and leaves

Fall decorating, crafts and

recipes are the best.  It’s getting

colder outside, the leaves are falling,

and we begin to prepare for the colder

months and getting ready for the holidays.

Nature becomes beautiful with all the colors, the air becomes crisp, the breeze starts to blow and the leaves are now falling to the ground.

Don’t get me wrong…..I LOVE SUMMER, it’s great.  But there is something really special about fall.

Now that Halloween is over our thoughts migrate to Thanksgiving, being with family and/or friends, favorite traditions and family favorite recipes.

Jamie’s Tree

When our daughter Jamie was born and growing up…..I decided that each year I would give her an ornament dated for that year.

When she got older and left our nest, got married or whatever pathway she chose to take in life…                                                   she would have a collection of ornaments to take with her.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   I searched stores and craft shows                                                     all the time for handmade, meaningful ornaments.

I saw this on Pinterest today,  Thanks to  www.blessedarethefeet.com/give-every-day-shine/     new-year It struck home that  I need to set goals for my blog for the brand spankin new, sparkly, do-over, blank canvas, full of promise, and hopeful NEW YEAR!!                                                            GOALS!!                                                    You could think of goals as a recipe for your success? There are short term, and long term goals.  Goals are written to carry out or attain a desired outcome.  They will most likely need to be modified, reviewed and most likely will be changed once, twice, maybe more or if you are lucky maybe less.  I love this graphic because of all its ideas of how you can improve or change your goals. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow….

Today’s craft comes from your imagination.

As a child I was always cutting paper snowflakes.  Fold, fold  and fold.  Then cut, cut and cut.  Then open up the paper to see the wonderful creation.  I always felt like such an accomplished artist.  there never were two that turned out alike.  So exciting.  Now as an adult I still enjoy the thrill.  Although now I try to see how intricate I can make my snowflakes.  It just  makes me feel like a kid again.  View the tutorial from Martha Stewart here. Then fold, and cut and let your imagination soar!!!  A few years ago I also discovered 3 dimensional paper snowflakes. More about that in a future post.  I make them for the office that I work in at school.  Hang with string or thread attached at the top, or use putty to attach to the window.

Also when you are satisfied with your creation, spray glue on your snowflake and sprinkle it with glitter….Beautiful!

This is a craft that young and old can enjoy.  So get out your scissors and ENJOY!!  HAVE FUN!!!!  BE A CHILD AGAIN!

Happy Thanksgiving…

Thanksgiving Holiday Decorations

Thanksgiving Holiday Decorations

First of all I would like to wish everyone the best Thanksgiving ever!  As we go about our holiday preparations I want to take a minute to remind everyone to give thanks for your blessings.  I am thankful for my beautiful family,  my health, my job, and all of my wonderful friends.  Everyday that I wake up in this wonderful world I feel blessed to be able to enjoy another day.

I would like to share a picture of the beautiful wreath that hangs on the front door  of my mom’s house during the fall.  She made the wreath when we went to A.C. Moore for a wreath making class about 15 to 20 years ago.

Grandma's Favorite Cranberry Apple Salad

Apple Cranberry Salad – an old Family Recipe

cranberry-salad

It’s not Thanksgiving in my house unless there is my       grandmother’s Apple Cranberry Salad on the table.                         Since I was a little girl this has been a staple at our                      holiday table.  Grandma would make this dish to take                        to all the church functions as well as our family                           holiday dinners.

Ingredients:

  • Apple-Cranberry-Salad-Collage-150x1501 12oz bag of whole cranberries
  • 3 large apples
  • 3 oranges
  • 1 cup  walnuts
  • 1 cup sugar (or sweeten to taste)

Clean cranberries.  Cut up apples and oranges.   Grind up apples, oranges, cranberries and walnuts in a food processor.  Add 1 cup sugar and mix together.  If needed add more sugar to sweeten to taste.  This salad is like a relish consistency, and is best as it sits in the fridge and flavors blend together.  A friend told me this salad freezes well.  From my family table to yours….

Enjoy!
